Water, Sewer & Storm Sewer Services
Water meters are read monthly, mostly with the "auto-read" system. City personnel use an electronic gun to record the reading at the outside reader, which is the same as the reading on the meter itself. Utility bills include monthly charges for water, sewer, garbage, landfill, storm sewer and system maintenance.
Meters on the west side of town are read beginning on the 1st business day of each month. Consumption is recorded and bills are prepared and mailed out on or around the 15th day of that month. Bills mailed out the 15th of the month are due the 5th (or next business day) of the following month. Meters on the east side of town are read beginning on the 15th day of the month. Consumption is recorded and bills are prepared and mailed out on or around the last day of that month. Bills mailed out on the last day of the month are due the 20th (or next business day) of the following month.
All properties with a water meter installed and/or water service connected at the curb stop/box are charged minimum monthly charges for water and sewer, and are also charged monthly garbage and landfill, storm sewer and system maintenance charges. A minimum monthly bill with no water consumption is currently $61.30.
Late payments are charged a 5% late fee. You may elect to have your bank account automatically debited for payment of your water bill. You may also pay your bill at City Hall, drop it in the after-hours depository in the City Hall parking lot, or pay by credit/debit card or e-check by clicking on the City Services/Utility Billing & Payment Information tab on the website.

Residents are also billed $4.00 per month for a System Maintenance charge, this charge is used to repair and maintain the water towers. Residents are also billed $4.00 per month for a Sewer System Maintenance charge, this charge is used to help maintain the Sewer System.
Irrigation (outdoor watering) meters are available to measure water usage outside a residence or business when such water is not discharged into the public sewer system. The water used is metered, and normal water rates apply, EXCEPT sewer charges are not billed. There is no minimum monthly charge; you are billed only for water usage. Meters must be installed by a plumber and shall be inspected by water department personnel before use. The cost of the meter and installation charges are the responsibility of the property owner. Sewer charge is based on water consumption.

A charge of $3.00 per month for storm sewer utility is billed to all properties that have a water meter installed.
A deposit of $100 is required for new service, unless the customer provides a letter of good credit from a previous utility showing no delinquencies in a twelve month period, or has established good credit with the City of Cherokee in the past.
Garbage & Landfill Charges
Charges for garbage ($16.50 monthly) and landfill ($15.25 monthly) are billed to all residential properties that have a water meter installed and water service connected at the curb stop/box.
